A little History of Abertridwr YMCA.
The Aber Valley YMCA was officially opened in 1938. The then National Secretary of the YMCA in Wales, Mr. W J Pate whose son, incidentally, was later to become Clerk of Caerphilly Urban District Council, was invited by Mr. Edward L Hann Managing director of the Powell Dyffryn Company Ltd to come to Abertridwr with a view to forming an association in the area, for the benefit of local young men, especially those working at the Windsor Colliery. The meeting was held in the vestry of Nazareth Chapel Abertridwr.
Mr.W F Rowland J.P. MBE was duly elected Chairman, a post which he held for 25 years. Also at the meeting were Mr. David Roderick, Mr. Morgan Griffiths, Mr. Maldwyn Howells BSC, Mr. D Richards and Mr. W J Pate.
When it opened the YMCA consisted of one small room and one table tennis table, There were two more side rooms and a gentlemans toilet.
The original multi purpose hall was built in 1939, but since then there has been a rapid succession of extensions and improvements, resulting in the building and facilities we see today
